all about us

We are a church that loves cutting edge praise and worship, Bible-based preaching and fellowship with one another. When people visit Gateway Church for the first time, they are always blessed by the friendliness and welcome they receive. Relationship with God and people are important to us. We hope you will come and visit us and see for yourselves. Through prayer, hard work and a willingness to grow and change, God has molded a group of believers into a dynamic team. We're excited about what God is doing and going to do here at Gateway Church and we hope you decide to check us out!

Prophesied as being the "Lighthouse for Ashtabula County," Gateway Church has a rich heritage of worship, service and vision!

The first service was held in October, 1947, under the ministry of Rev. & Mrs. Robert Howard.  In January, 1948, the church moved to the corner of West Avenue and Route 20, at which time the church became affiliated with the Ohio District Council of the Assemblies of God.

In the summer of 1970, Rev. & Mrs. Michael Ragan were called to pastor the church.  At that time, the morning worship averaged 43 people in attendance.  From 1970 through 1975, the church experienced unparalleled growth, with average Sunday morning attendance exceeding 250. Groundbreaking on Austinburg Road for the sanctuary  was held on July 19, 1977.  In 1981, the gymnasium and other classrooms were built, which eventually housed Christian Life Academy (a K-12 school).  In 1986, a Korean Pentecostal group began using the Chapel and Cafeteria for Sunday worship services, and continue to do so.  In 1989, Ready, Set, Go Daycare was launched in the building.  With the decreasing amount of students, C.L.A. was forced to close its doors for the 1995-96 school year.  In October, 2000, the daycare closed as well. Also in October, 2000, Revs. Donald & Debra Hammer were elected to become the first Co-Pastors of this church.

In July, 2008, the members voted to change the name of the church to Gateway Church to better describe our God-approved purpose.

our mission

The mission of Gateway Church is to be a gateway (any passage by or point at which a region may be entered) for the move of God into Northeast Ohio.

We want to see revival consume Ashtabula County and the surrounding counties!

As we equip the saints for the work of the Lord and His Kingdom, revival will flow through this region to "do the work of the ministry."  (Ephesians 4:11-13)

We want to help people connect with others as they grow closer to God.
